Unhappiness: What to do when it’s not working.

Let’s assume you’d like more money, and since you don’t have it, you’ve been using one of your favorite tools to fix the problem: Unhappiness. This seems like a smart plan, since you use this tool in so many other areas of your life:
Overweight?
Bad or no relationship?
Career issues?
Health Issues?

Don’t you use unhappiness to combat and fix all these problems/issues? If you’ve found that your unhappiness has cleared up any or all of these issues, then keep up the good work! And then congratulate yourself for being the only one who has ever figured out how to use unhappiness to bring happiness. You are unique!
I know many of you are now quickly trying to defend unhappiness and it’s power. “I wasn’t happy about being fat and went on a diet and it worked, so there!” Guess what, no it didn’t. Until that diet felt good, or you were getting happier about the results you were seeing, unhappiness didn’t work. And did you gain all the weight back? Hmm. And are you STILL unhappy about it? Then it’s not working. Darkness can’t bring light, and unhappiness can’t bring happiness. Yes, I know we can hit rock bottom, or just get sick and tired of a bad situation and do something about it. But notice that. The “do something” means you just decided to take action! And that’s the opposite of being unhappy. It’s courageousness, it’s a higher energy.

But for the rest of us who haven’t figured out how to make unhappiness work, perhaps we need to try a different tool, a different strategy. If you are unsure if it’s been working or not, then make a list of a few of the top things you are unhappy about. Then write down next to that how long you’ve been unhappy about that issue. It’s probably a long time, isn’t it?
So let’s focus on money. How long have you wanted/needed more money, and been unhappy about it? A year? two years? forty years? Ever since you had the worst lunch box at school? Just check and see. Then try this…

1) Goal: What is it you want? What is it you’ve wanted for this period of time? Money?

2) Check: Has it worked? Has this seemingly foolproof plan of mine of using unhappiness as my way to get rich, or get my bills paid off worked? I’m going to guess no.

3) Question: what if I wasn’t unhappy about it? This should stir up all sort of resistance in you. Notice how a part of you is trying desperately to hang on and defend your need to be unhappy about your finances. Is it like a trial lawyer, making it’s case. I HAVE TO BE UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS! Yes, the lawyer is right. Assuming that your goal is to be unhappy. However, If it’s to get money, then read step two again. Keep doing this loop until your internal unhappiness lawyer finally agrees to “rest this case”.

4) Don’t try to be happy: We hear a lot about happiness being a choice. Well, guess what, it’s not! Huh?…yes, that’s right. As soon as you stop being unhappy, happiness is not a choice. It’s automatic. It’s what’s underneath. It’s like a white car with mud on it. Once you wash off the mud, the white is there. You don’t need to try and make it white, and you can’t stop it from being white.

So will this get me any money? If I dare to stop being unhappy about not having enough money, will it really help?

There’s only one way to find out.

Free Money

“If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t they never were.” Richard Bach.

Free Money:

Interesting concept, isn’t it? Of course it’s free, because you can’t buy money. (Well, unless it’s collectible or different currency’s, but let’s not split hairs)

But what if we looked at “free” differently. If we look for different definitions of “free”, perhaps we will view the statement, “Free Money” differently.

I looked up the word “free” on dictionary.com, and pulled a few of the various definitions posted. I will only make brief comments on each definition to help steer you to make your own connections.

1) “To make free; set at liberty; release from bondage, imprisonment, or restraint.”

Hmm. Interesting. Does that definition ring any bells with you if you relate it to money?

2) “Exempt or released from something specified that controls, restrains, burdens, etc.”

Do you feel restrained? Burdened by lack of money for bills? Maybe let that go and see what happens.

3) “That may be used by or is open to all”

Do you agree with that notion? Or might you feel that money is only for the few?

4) “Clear of obstructions or obstacles”

Might you view money as an obstacle to the things you want? Does that create a positive or negative relationship?

5) “At liberty to enter and enjoy at will”

When was the last time you thought of money as something for you to really enjoy?

Free Money. Just thought it might be interesting to take a look at it from a different perspective and see if it’s actually us who are restricting the free flow of money.
